Personally I think its BP thing more than anything as they are famous for going off food for little or no reason & just coincidence more than anything, Mark

Freezer burn can sometimes be an issue too! I have some that dont care for "old" frozen meat.

Yep.

Usually it will be a fluke that folks then attribute to the colour/sex whatever of the food but (to paraphrase one Mr Roy Stockwell since he put it best...) "there are 3 things that bring out feeding strikes in snakes: scent, movement, and heat. Some may only require one, and some may need all 3 things".

Sometimes they just aren't hungry & sometimes enviromental issues(temps, humidity, barometric pressure) & time of year(brumation...breeding season), or appropriate prey, or size of the prey can factor into one not eating.

I have heard people say this before. I don't believe it to be true. I just don't see how a snake could really care about the color.

maybe it could be due to rats and mice not being white in the wild?

Don't really think that it is because there are no white rats or mice in the wild. Most people I know have CB snakes and they come from long lines of CB snakes. Most likely it is just the snake saying "Your a dumdass and watch how I can drive you nuts".(Quitely chuckling in his hide)

I agree. It may just appear to be a preference - especially with a ball coming off a fast. All of a sudden it is eating again. As you most likely haven't done anything different, it is easy to hope that the colour was the magic bullet.
They are generally fed in the dark so I can't see how it could make a difference.

As far of all the reasearch I have done over the years. Snakes in the area of sight they are for the most part colorblind just like the prey they eat. That is why they evolved with the heat sensing pits and in colorbrids they detect movement and larger color changes not the color itself but in example the snake is looking and watching for movement then when the prey moves the area has changed color/shade that's what I am lead to believe on how they see also with shadows, overhead light changes. They have shown the same results with rodents but instead of heat sensing pits they evolved with whiskers long enough they can run along the wall and detect objects in front of them in complete darkness what you guys can do is make a black background to feed your snakes agaisnt so they can see the rats instead of blending in with the wall behind you (if you have white walls)

I am careful to make sure my snakes are good and hungry then they eat whatever I give them. They are healthy. I hade one go off food for awhile then I slowed down on feeding and never had a problem since.
