I know not much about Colubrids at all though I love looking at them and am always itching to learn. I have a few Colubrids myself, (Albino Tangerine Hondruan Milksnake was my first ever snake) but they're more pets as I'm more focused on Pythons and Boas.
Thanks again for sharing. I could look at these little critters for hours.
They are similar but are a different subspecies. MBKs are Lampropeltis getula nigrita and Cal kings are Lampropeltis getula californiae. MBKs are naturally black (for the most part). This Chocolate Cal king is Homozygous for a particular recessive mutation. Its basically a Hypermelanistic or Melanistic Cal king.
