    Default Dumb DIY background question

I am going to be using some Great Stuff in my background. I understand that using silicone on the glass prior to spraying creates a stronger bond. Out of all the DIY tutorials I have read, none of them say if they spay the Great Stuff on the silicone while it is still tacky/wet or if they wait for it to cure so the GS has a coarse surface to adhere to.

Can anyone clear this up? Also, I've read silicone and egg crate prior to applying the GS creates an even stronger bond. Anyone have experience with that?

    thanks

To be honest, with all of the tanks I have customized, I have just applied the gs straight to the glass. That being said, if you do use silicone first, so long as the surface has had time to dry it should be fine. Depending on the silicone you use, the wait time will probably be around 30 mins or so before it is 'ready to be tooled' as it says on the stuff I use.

If you were to silicone egg crate on there as well I could only imagine it would only increase the bond. I'm sure there are others on here that have done a lot more work with this than I have. Tanina does a lot of amazing things. I'd suggest looking at some of her threads as well. She has a lot of step by step images that might be useful. Everyone sort of does things differently, but I hope this helps.

You should let it fully cure.Foaming it with tacky silicone will just lengthen the curing process (silicone).
Post pics of your viv once it's done...
