    Default Home insurance FYI

Well the story goes I am currently looking for home insurance. I have phoned many brokers, and I have disclosed all info they have asked for. Including pets almost all of them have completely and immediatley rejected my applications, due to the fact I have snakes in the house. So I guess what I am trying to say is don't tell them you have reptiles in your home. This is really stupid and ignorant thinking on their part. Many of you may know this so I am giving any and all who don't know this a heads up.

Full disclosure. If something happened (ie house burned down) and they find out you had snakes, you wouldn't be covered and would lose everything.

I was about to add that. We are through Pembridge aka statefarm for home insurance. They are aware that we have both reptiles and rodents in our house. And as Jay said if you ever try and submit a claim and you have not disclosed all information you risk your claim being denied.

http://www.touchstoneinsurance.ca/ is who we use. The really nice thing about dealing with a good broker is you are not talking directly to the insurance companies. This means that if you are inquiring about things ie modifying cars you don't get notes added to your file that can cause issues.

While on the topic of home insurance, be cautious with the use of heat tape. If it were to cause a fire, and it was deemed it was due to improper wiring... your insurance company wouldn't give you a dime.

I just can't believe that snakes would turn companies off from offering insurance... Well with all these crazy snake attacks happening "all" the time..... :/

Unfortunately, when you mention snakes they are probably thinking cobras and anacondas.

Is the issue with insurance coverage usually just with snakes, or is it with all reptiles? Or does it depend on the size, type, and number of reptiles?
I've heard this come up before, but it was with someone who had primarily boas, and they mentioned that in their case with their insurance provider, the issue was the size and number of snakes they had.

Wow. This is something I have never considered. What is the issue, exactly? Heat lamps?
