    Unhappy snarff has escaped.

we were out for dinner last night and had a night with no kids in a fancy hotel, got home today and the babysitter (father in law) tells me that snarffs cage was open this morning.

i said, you didnt think to call me???

both kids are denying touching the cage, so i dont know the whole story.

what i do know is he is missing.

he is almost 2years old. about 3.5-4feet long.

hasent eaten in about 15 days, which is not unusual for him. sometimes he goes 4 weeks without feeding, other times he gobbles up rats every week.

anywho, i have put a space heater in my basement (developed) where his enclosure is, setup a place for him to hide and and i have a snack for him i am about to put out. all the lights are off down thier as well.

    any other thoughts?

i have already torn the basement apart, looked in every toy box, moved all the furniture, blankets and checked the storage room, furnace, etc no sign.

i hope he hasnt gone upstairs.

i do have a dog, but dont worry he is the biggest chicken shit of the pack and altough he is 100lbs he would run like a scared little girl if he spoted the snake.

i just hope he hasnt climbed the steps and could be in any other room of the house.

    any tips would be appreciated.

    cheers,
    R.

Snakes tend to roam at night & like to go around the perimeter so too speak as well.
If possible close off that section of the house to limit its "range".
Also setup boxes (hides) around the perimeters, I find that an old pizza box with a hole in the corners along the wall work great as they are low & dark.
I actually have one on the one wall of my snake room all the time & the last escapee was found there right away shortly after being discovered AWOL LOL
You can also utilize grocery bags around the room too & then investigate all noises at night from there on too.
More often than not I have found escapees cruising across trhe floor etc. late at night or heard them knock something over & discovered they were out by that if I didn't already know.
Everytime a commercial comes on even go for a quick look turning the lights on in the area & scanning quickly before it slithers off to hide again.
Sources of heat & water are common areas to hide, electronics, vents, furnaces/ducting, fishtanks, plants etc.
If there are dressers etc. quite often the drawers can be accessed by them from the backs etc. even when closed.
One can search the area repeatedly is the best bet checking literally anywhere it could fit into, at least its a larger one not just a baby so finding it should be pretty easy.
Your dog can help too, if its acting particular etc. in around certain areas or furniture it could be a sign of snakees presence there.
Cats are good for this but they also tend to kill them or try DOH!
Best bet is too search search search & at night is the time when its likely to be on the move, Mark

Well your wife can feel safe your snake won't find the bed for sometime. I only suggest this when you are home and are not planning on leaving. Using glue boards with frozen rats/mice on them for one day only. This is a good way to waste money on glue boards and rats. But I have used this before when working on finding other people loose snakes. The snake will get stuck on them, then try moving around making noise and moving things. To get them off the board I have used olive oil and it works quite well. I only suggest this if you have seen signs of the snake moving around but can't seem to be around to pick him or her up.

Gonna disagree. I would not, for any animal, use a Glue Board.

Wish you luck in finding your missing snake. Providing a dark, warm spot for him near the area he escaped will definitely help. Might not find him right away, but you will.

Another thing is to start putting towels under the doors of rooms, to reduce the chance of your snake moving from place to place during the night. It will also help you locate him a little more easily if he isn't switching rooms all the time, haha.

Another thing you can try (only if you have hardwood floors or vinyl) is dusting the floors in between rooms and around the edges with flour at night. Then in the morning find out which room he is in. Messy but will help eliminate rooms!

Well just in my experience with work and personal use I have captured 18 snakes with the use of them without(edit) injury or deaths. That where I was coming from.
