October 15^th 2012 Meeting – Shawnessy Petland

Rattlesnake Trip
A fantastic time was had by everyone that was lucky enough to go, besides being able to find and handle rattlesnakes we also saw a garter snake, as well as a special behind the scenes peek at some dinosaur fossil’s, including one only partially uncovered. Jason will be contacting Adam as well as Dinosaur Provincial Park to see if we can arrange an overnight rattlesnake trip in the spring.

Calgary Reptile Expo Spring 2013
Rob has been negotiating with Genesis to hold our spring show there, and finally talked them down to $4252.50, with a $2000 deposit. A vote was held, and we decided to proceed with that venue. He will be booking it for May 3-5. Thanks Rob!

Casino
Teena went into further detail on what is needed for us to apply for the casino funds, there are very strict guidelines not only for the application process but also on how the funds can be used. We will also need about 25 volunteers. It will take potentially 2 years for us to receive a date after we submit our application, we will be having a separate meeting to follow up.

Coco Brooks Fundraising opportunity
Jessica showed some information on what is needed to apply for their fundraising program, she will be submitting the application and organizing it. T.A.R.A.S could receive approximately 30% of all monies made from pizza sales

Andrew
In light of the current situation and accusations that have been made, it was decided to hold a vote to revoke his membership. A 75% vote in favour was needed, it did not pass. He will still be working on getting the issue resolved.

Board member voting
This was the meeting for anyone interested in running for our vacant board position to attend. Welcome to Teena, our ‘newest’ old board member!


Volunteers
A continuing issue we are facing is getting more volunteers, everyone had some great ideas, ie more educational events, starting a ‘social thread’ and getting more events such as karaoke or the fish creek salamander and frog ‘census’, games night, as well as perhaps separating our regular meeting into 2. We also discussed seeing if we would have more vendors willing to give a discount to T.A.R.A.S members, such as J&J’s, Riverfront, and Pisces already offer’s.

Board member vacancy
Heather has announced she will be stepping down from her role as board member, she will be missed! Anyone interested in running for this position will be welcome to attend our November meeting.

T.A.R.A.S x-mas party
We will once again be holding a potluck and going bowling with all of our fellow T.A.R.A.S members, Jessica has booked the Chinook bowladrome for Saturday, December 1^st. A vote was held and a budget of $600 has been approved.

Secret Santa
This year Teena will be heading up our Secret Santa, anyone interested in participating should contact her, thanks Teena!

November meeting
We will be featuring field herping at our November meeting, and are excited to be having Ian from E.R.A.S join us!

For show and tell Glyn showed us his Blonde Trans-peco Ratsnake and told us more about it. Who knew they had such cute googly eyes?
Lyra also brought her Egyptian Uromastyx, as well as her Greater Plated Lizard- beautiful!
