Today was a good day having found a Prairie rattlesnake and a Plains garter snake. Look over the rattlesnake`s swollen abdomen and you decide if she is gravid or not. I say yes. Basking in a denning site along the Red Deer river breaks. Interestingly, this the first year in 18 that I have seen rattlesnakes in this area. Some locals swear there are none, yet others folks claim that they have seen them in the past. Maybe, the recent mild winters and warmer summers have allowed the population to rebound or many snakes moved in from across the river.
