In the field once again. Five km of treking along the Red Deer river breaks and I found one small Prairie Rattlesnake sunning in the mouth of its` den site. You can judge its` size by comparing it to the clumps of benonite clay it`s resting on. The file was converted to B & W to show the cryptic colouration of the snake. I saw 2 other snakes, a Plains and Wandering garter both of which were road kills. Cooler nights will cause the snakes to move towards their denning sites.
