Headed out to do a little herping, stepped out of the truck, walked 20 yards smack into a rattlesnake. I was surprised because this is the first rattler I seen in the area in 19 years. Mind you, I made another post last week showing a snake track crossing a trail and mused it was made either by a rattler or a bullsnake. The distance between the two areas is about 1/4 mile. The close call came about because my dog`s curiosity got the best of her and she dashed in for a look. Imagine this-she rushed in and laid down with her paws almost touching the snake. You can see from the photo what the snake`s demure was like. Yes, much calmer than the dog.
