I didn't think it would kill the spider as they don't die when you flush them.. I guess not xD For the cupping the spider and releasing it out side option... I don't think I can get that close to them. (I hate mosquitos and flies)
And Hyo, I used to do the same, call my little brother and ask him to take care of it. He got tired of that after number of years. Now, I just scream or gasp, stare at it and tell it to wait while I go get the vacuum. Lol

I actually find that the older I get, the MORE scared of them I get. When I was little, I'd just gasp a little and run and find my mom to kill it. Now I get anxiety attacks, hyperventilate, and literally run away screaming; and I'm usually too speechless to try and tell someone there's a spider.
As far as spiders at shows or pet stores, I just stay as far away from them as I can, because I know they can't go anywhere (hopefully).
Just call me Hyo for short.

@Hyo, I had to force myself to find an alternative way. I'm not as scared of them as you are xD But still in the same category. My friend also told me something interesting.. if you are on ground, where ever you may be, at any given time, you are only ever 6 feet away from a spider. I hope I get over the fear since their beauty does amaze me.
When I was young, I would go bug catching all the time in the summer - dragonflies, grasshoppers, frogs, etc. I don't know what or when it happened that made me think otherwise of them.

Ha....well...I must be a mess.
I never kill spiders.
I've always had a dedicated 'spider jar with lid' that I use to capture/contain and I take them outside and turn 'em loose.
For the record...if it's mosquito, fly or Black Widow it's curtains for them immediately.
Carry on....

I admit, I used to have a big fear of spiders until I forced myself to watch them every time I saw one. I was "Tolerant" of them until my first day working with Jason (Slamjay) and he hands me his Tarantula to hold. Never touched an eight-legged creature that big before! After that, I kinda found them fascinating, and eventually fell in love with them. As for the story, Fiction! Many misunderstood animals that people seem to have phobias of get irrational stories involving them that aid in fear mongering, and you should take these "Horror stories" with a grain of salt.

2 Crested Geckos M/F, 3 Uromastyx M/F/F, 1 Corn snake M, 1 Leachie ?, 1 Rhino rat snake F, 1 B&W tegu F, 1 Great Plated Lizard F, 1 Norm. Ball python M, 1 Olive Python M, and 2 Cats M/F
I was never a big spider guy & still am not.
I helped fix that somewhat by going to Stan's house one night & coming home with 37 of them LOL
Next day I had to set them all up in new houses.
Hard to do without touching any of them & only armed with a pair of chopsticks LOL
Cheers Mark
P.S. We miss you Stan!

First, understand that I have no interest, financial or in kind, associated with either Carolyn or her book. I DO know her quite well, however, so there is a sort of personal investment to be acknowledged.
Having said that, all you who are "afraid of spiders," and especially those of you who are getting sick and tired of enduring your problem and its sequelae, should read Carolyn Swagerle's great, little book, The Legacy of Annie Rose. Yes, it has pictures of spiders (even worse, TARANTULAS!) in it. EVEN ON THE COVER! This is what we call trial by fire. If you're really sick and tired of the terror, and often the embarrassment, you'll overcome the sight of a spider for the sake of hearing how someone else conquered their difficulty.
If Carolyn can do it, so can you!
Besides, it's a good read!
Enjoy your own, private, little, 8-legged, 1950s, creature feature!![]()
