Any kind of submission is potentially useful.

While I have a small cache of kids' activities, cartoons, crosswords, and word searches are useful if anyone has the interest or ability to make those.

The main things that are really needed are animal-intros of one page or less, and longer articles on any relevant subject. Right now, I could use at least one animal intro, and preferably several.

Materials do not necessarily need to be COMPLETE by the 15th, but anything submitted needs to be reviewed, basic corrections made, and any suggested alterations sent back to the author for correction or approval. That's all before it goes to the printer for layout and the inevitable chain of adjustments, reviews, and corrections prior to actual publication. That means I need to know what's coming. Often images can be obtained from other members - I have thousands of my own, of hundreds of taxa. I also have thousands of references which I am willing to provide to those who request them [might be a bit late for this issue though]. At the very least I need an outline or a partial work, which can be completed by the end of the month. So if you don't think you can finish something by the 15th, don't worry! There's room to 'play', and materials can always be used in later issues.

Many original articles will qualify in the "Educational" category of the competitions. That's a FREE shot at some great prizes! Entries carry over to next year if they're too late for this year, which means you could STILL win a great prize without even remembering you're entered!
The trend is to post names and numbers of "pets" here. That seems...um...bulky.

Hear-ye, hear ye! Now abusing moribund equines!

We have an ongoing need for short introductions on particular animals - pick something you know lots about, or something you've been interested in and made a point of researching. Then, tell us what it is. If you don't have pictures, I probably do. If not, we can probably get some.

If your write-up is short, we can make it a "Feature Creature". If it's longer, it can be a feature article. Don't fret your writing or research skills, as once it's submitted, we are happy to help you out with feedback on ways to 'raise the bar', or references to look at.

Lead articles can also cover breeding, general care, field experiences, zoos, or anything you think might be of interest to SOME of our membership. Photos and illustrations are not mandatory, but they can help a lot, so if you have them, submit them. There will always be someone interested, and the idea is to have something a bit different every time.

Articles are needed NOW. They are always needed, so I won't offer a deadline - if it misses one cut-off, it will be ready for the next. All submissions should be sent to and should be in .doc format. Not .docx or whatever that open office format is - it needs to be in a nearly universal format so that everyone who might need to look at it will be able to. During spring and summer, articles which address field experiences, species-in-the-wild, or natives are prefered, while off-season articles should address husbandry or tropical species. If it's out of season - send it! I'll have it all ready the moment I think it's needed.

Photos are prefered as .jpg, but most major formats are fine. I can crop and touch-up as need be. Send your best image, but let's limit it to not more than 300 dpi and eight inches wide [2400 pixels wide], nore less than 150 dpi and two inches [300 pixels]. Small images can't be edited much without making them useless, so the higher end is prefered.
